    City Of The Dead Tour
    Feb 9th, 2010 by stuwad

    City Of The Dead Tour

Not just a tour. A PHENOMENON.

The Graveyard tour combines the weirdest history with the wildest stories and wickedest humour around. This tour even has a unique gift shop – located in a graveyard funeral parlour!

Best of all, City of the Dead has access to the Covenanters Prison and the Black Mausoleum – lair of the world famous Mackenzie Poltergeist .

An encounter with the poltergeist is the highlight of the tour, with hundreds of people claiming to have been attacked by the enitity. The MacKenzie Poltergeist is now regarded as the best documented supernatural case of all time and the tour has become equally famous – the subject of a book as well as scores of television documentaries, newspaper articles and websites.

A careful blend of fascinating history and distinctive humour, culminating in a genuinely terrifying experience has made the Graveyard Tour a phenomenon rather than a tour. Read the story of the MacKenzie Poltergeist in the acclaimed book The Ghost That Haunted Itself by Jan Andrew Henderson.

Nightly from the large tour sign outside St Giles’ Cathedral on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.

    Age Restrictions
    Feb 2nd, 2010 by gurustu

We have no upper age limit, but we do not allow anyone under 18 years of age to stay with us. This is because we hold a bar license, which restricts us from allowing under 18’s in. This means there can be no exceptions at all.

    A Bar
    Feb 2nd, 2010 by gurustu

Yes we have a bar, a real bar, with pool tables and everything. We sell beers, ciders, and spirits all for the cheapest prices we can manage. The bar is open until at least 1am most nights, sometimes 3am if there are lots of people around!

As well as alcoholic beverages we also sell soft drinks from Coke to the great Scottish drink Irn Bru.  We also have snacks available from a variety of chocolate bars to crisps so if you’re feeling peckish come down!

We also put on great social evenings in the bar such as a ‘Pub Quiz’, Pool competitions and live entertainment so ask at reception on your arrival of all the things going on in there during your stay!

    City Center Location
    Jan 30th, 2010 by gurustu

We are smack bang in the middle of the city center, in the New Town, which isn’t really that new at all. The main shopping street is outside our front door, and there are pubs and clubs everywhere. The Old Town is a 10 minute walk away, and indeed there isn’t much that you would want to do in Edinburgh that is more than 15 minutes walk from our front door.

    Key Card Access
    Jan 30th, 2010 by gurustu

We use key cards to access your rooms. These are better than normal keys because anyone can copy a normal key. The keycards expire at a certain time, so in the unlikely event that a copy is able to be made, it will only last a short time. You can even keep your keycards as a souvenir. You should always show your card to reception when you walk past, and you will need to use your keycard to enter the hostel after midnight.

    Lockers
    Jan 30th, 2010 by gurustu

In your room you will find lockers which you can use. You will need to supply your own padlock, or you can purchase one from us for £2.50.
The lockers are about 600hx305wx460d mm, so large suitcases might not fit, but they can always go under the bed.

    Luggage Storage
    Jan 30th, 2010 by gurustu

When you check out we have a luggage storage cupboard where you can leave your bags for the day while you explore Edinburgh a bit more.

    Laptop Charging Lockers
    Jan 30th, 2010 by gurustu

In the bar we have some lockers available where you can charge you phone or laptop securely. There is no cost, but you have to ask the staff to open them for you.
